]]> http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/check-out-our-page-on-facebook/feed/ 0 Back to School 2009 http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/back-to-school-2009-2/ http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/back-to-school-2009-2/#comments Mon, 17 Aug 2009 01:10:31 +0000 Administrator http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/?p=241 August 23 begins a new season of youth ministry at Chestnut Grove and all teenagers in 7th-12th grade are invited to be a part of it.  We will kick off the new year on Wednesday, August 19 with our rising seventh grade dinner.  All rising seventh graders are invited to join Steven and Katina for dinner as we get to know each other and learn about all the Youth Program at Chestnut Grove has to offer.  We’ll leave church at 5:30 pm for dinner at Golden Corral and return to the church around 7:30.  If you’re interested in attending, please let us know.

On Sunday, August 23, seventh graders will be promoted to the youth Sunday School class and are welcome to join us for our Sunday evening gatherings at 6:30 and Wednesday evening Bible study at 6:30.  This fall on Wednesdays, we’ll be engaging in a study on Prayer and how this discipline is a part of the Christian life.

Best wishes to all of our youth as they begin a new school year.  We are excited about another year of ministry at Chestnut Grove and hope that you will be a part of it.

]]> http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/back-to-school-2009-2/feed/ 0 End of School/Beginning of Summer http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/end-of-schoolbeginning-of-summer/ http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/end-of-schoolbeginning-of-summer/#comments Fri, 22 May 2009 14:28:02 +0000 Administrator http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/?p=205 The CGBC Youth had a busy but productive month of May.  Youth Sunday and the Follies were both great successes, and now we turn our attention toward summer.  Our original camp plan has been modified again, as Global Youth Ministry has cancelled their camp in North Carolina.  Our only other option for the summer is a location in Chatsworth, GA.  The drive will be a bit longer than anything we’ve done with our youth before, so we are planning to arrange charter transportation for safety reasons.  Because of this, the trip will be slightly more expensive than originally planned.  Final payments for camp will be about $100.00 and due by June 7.  An information packet will be coming soon in the mail. 

We are also planning to attend King’s Fest again this year at King’s Dominion on Thursday, July 9.  Jeremy Camp and Reliant K will be the headline concert for the evening and we will spend the day in the amusement park.  Total cost for this trip will be $55.00 plus meals.  Payment for this trip will be due on Sunday, June 21.

We figured that with the snow and cancellations that some folks might have missed that date. Not to worry, we still have several available spots for camp this year, but please let us know that you are planning to attend as soon as possible and pay the $50.00 deposit.

Camp is a truly great time for our students to have fun and experience Christian growth. It is also an experience that brings us closer together as a youth group. For more information about the camp, visit the website here.  We will be leaving around 8:00 am on Monday and returning around 6:00 pm Friday.  The camp is in Blue Ridge, NC and the total cost will be $120.00.  This price includes food, lodging, and activities at the camp.  Students will need money for lunch on the way to camp and on the return home.

]]> http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/summer-camp-2009/feed/ 0 Winter 2008 http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/winter-2008/ http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/winter-2008/#comments Fri, 21 Nov 2008 14:41:24 +0000 Administrator http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/?p=56 As winter approaches, we wanted to give the church an update on some of the important events coming up in our youth program.  All parents should look for a letter in the coming week.  We’ve provided a guide for parents and youth to use as a devotional time together.  Since we aren’t having a regular youth meeting on November 30, we’d like to encourage all youth and parents to spend some time together going through this guide during that time on Sunday night.  If anyone else is interested, or if you do not get your letter, please contact us and let us know.

Our ski trip this year will be on January 2-5 at Massanutten.  There are still a few spots left if you haven’t paid a deposit and would like to go, but spaces are filling, so please let us know soon.

We will celebrate our annual progressive dinner and gift exchange on Sunday night, December 7.  Any youth or parents with questions about the event can contact Steven or Katina for details.  We will meet at the church at 5:00 that evening.

We have also had a change of summer plans.  We will still attend Global Youth Camp, but it will be located at Blue Ridge, NC and will happen on July 20-24.

]]> http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/winter-2008/feed/ 0 Back to School 2008 http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/back-to-school-2009/ http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/back-to-school-2009/#comments Tue, 19 Aug 2008 14:58:05 +0000 Administrator http://chestnutgrovebaptist.org/cg/?p=53 As we wait for the school year to begin, our “ministry” year kicked off on Sunday night, August 17th as we welcomed a dozen new youth to our fellowship.  Most of the rising seventh graders attended our back to school dinner last Wednesday evening, but please get in touch if any youth or parents have any questions about what we do and who we are.

We’ll spend most of the fall getting to know each other before any major trips or events, but we do plan to have our annual Winter Retreat at Massanutten Ski resort again in January or February.  The other big trip on the calendar for now is a return to Global Youth camp in Lynchburg the second week of June.  We encourage all of our youth to attend this camp.

Our Wednesday evening Bible study begins on Wednesday, August 20 and this semester we plan to follow God’s story from Genesis to Isaiah.  Our study will include drama/comedy video presentations from the video “Good God Theater” by Ted and Company.  The study will begin at Creation and end with Advent.

For Sunday evenings, a new dinner schedule will be mailed soon, but on August 31, we will travel to the home of the Van Wicklers for dinner and recreation.  Because of the travel, we will be returning to the church later than our normal 8:00 ending time.
